Green Crab Vodka
Green crab oil is a great way to use up leftover shells and can be easily amended with hot peppers and aromatics. While we love adding green crab to gumbo and chowder, it can also be used to fat-wash vodka or neutral grain spirits. Even though it might sound strange to some, green crab vodka makes a delicious Martini, Caesar, Bloody Mary, or shooter.
Ingredients/ Materials
¼ cup spicy crab oil
2 cups (~500 mL) vodka
blender
fine mesh strainer
coffee filter
Instructions
Add spicy crab oil and vodka together in a blender and blend for roughly a minute.
Pour into a freezer-safe container and freeze until the butter settles to the bottom of the container. This can take 2-3 days.
Remove the frozen oil “disc” from the top and then pour the remaining vodka through a coffee filter in a fine mesh strainer.
If the vodka remains cloudy, place the container in the fridge or freezer for a day then repeat the straining process.
Store in a glass container refrigerated and use within two weeks.
